Contrada Guardiola is an ancient domain in the heart of the Passopisciaro estate situated between 800 m and 1,000 m.a.s.l., on the edge of the lava flow from the 1947 eruption, It produces a deep and complex wine with a rich, juicy and fleshy red fruit. Produced from a very careful selection of 100+ year old vines. Less than one ton per acre. 100% Nerello Mascalese. Stainless steel fermentation for 15 days. 18 months aging in large, neutral oak barrels. Photographed on first visit June 2017.
“The 2017 Contrada G (from the spectacular Contrada Guardiola is a very elegant and polished expression with small berry intensity, creme de cassis, dried pomegranate and delicate whiffs of exotic spice. The wine positions itself with vertical intensity thanks to its mid-weight mouthfeel and very focused aromatic intensity that awakens the senses. I love the extremely polished and pristine nature of this 100% Nerello Mascalese. Some 3,750 bottles were released.” 94 points – October 17th – Monica Larner (Wine Advocate)
