Although the Esmonin parcels in Mazy-Chambertin and Ruchottes-Chambertin parcels are not far apart, the wines which these parcels produce are remarkably distinct. Esmonin’s site in Mazy is close to Chambertin-Clos de Bèze and produces a bigger, more masculine wine, while their outstanding Ruchottes is very refined, with its sleek lines and fine tannins. The Mazy and Ruchottes are truly special and I firmly believe these are the two best examples of these wines Esmonin has ever produced. Extremely limited in the US market.
The Mazy – “Bright cherry and berry fruit introduces this elegant red, along with floral, mineral and a hint of earth notes. It’s sleek and tensile, with superb balance and poise. The cherry and strawberry theme continues through the long finish. Best from 2024 through 2045.” 95 points, Wine Spectator – 75 cases imported. — BS (May 2021)
